Clean Coal largely is descriptive of the scrubbing of Sulphur and particulates from coal plant exhausts, which can acidify rainfall and decrease local air quality – Clean Coal does not directly address the global warming criticism of Coal as a fuel and thus comes under broad criticism from environmental groups.
Apologies, the technology does also attempt to liquefy CO2 and reduce its atmospheric volatility, but this is far from a totally realized ambition.
Clean coal refers to reductions in CO2 emissions from coal power plants. The coal itself is not any cleaner, but rather the process is kept under better control.
