Classical civilization usually refers to Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome.  These cultures dominated the Mediterranean Sea from the 5th century BC, until the Christianization of the Roman Empire around the 5th – 6th century AD.

Classical Civilization is a THREE-YEAR major (that is why courses are numbered at the 100 200 and 300 level). In order to major in the subject, students are required to take TWO one-semester courses at the 200 level (32 credits) and FOUR one-semester courses at the 300 level (64 credits). Obviously, at least ONE one-semester course at the 100 level (16 credits) is strongly recommended as a useful and informative introduction to this area of study.
