Moscow, Russia’s public transportation system is the most used in the world with 8.2 million riders on weekdays and 3.2 billion in a year traveling to 172 stations.
The Tokyo Subway system has a daily ridership of 8.7 million. Moscow is second with 7 million, and Seoul is third, with 5.6 million.
In terms of percentage of population, I could only find data for American cities. New York has the highest percentage of people who commute using public transportation: 54.6%. Next are Washington, San Francisco, and Boston.
