According to a March 2009 survey of 12 top resource-consuming cities worldwide, Washington DC turned out to be the city with the largest greenhouse gas output per person. This was attributed to the energy use of large amounts of office space within the city. DC emissions were found to be 19.7 tonnes of CO2 per capita.
