What city has the most eco friendly public transportation industry?

It depends on how you look at what is ‘greener’. If you’re looking at CO2 emissions emitted per rider the best is New York City (Second being Washington D.C.), Boston, San Francisco, Oakland and Berkley California alongside the most popular green cites like Eugene and Portland Oregon.

If you’re looking at the actual structure of the system you’re looking at a combination of things and not all cites are the same. A city may have a light rail that saves a ton on electricity and not emit anything directly, but a system that uses just busses that are hybrids may emit more but have a larger ridership.

The site cited has many different numbers on it that I found very interesting.
