I think you might mean “chicory”! Chicory is a perennial herb that grows in North America (although it is natively European.) It has blue flowers, and a tough, fibrous stem. The root of chicory is often used as a coffee substitute or replacement, for people looking to cut down on their caffeine intake.
The leaves of the chicory plant can also be eaten, cooked similarly to endive.
