There are currently no chickens that lay red eggs. Most chickens lay eggs that are light brown, dark brown, or white in color. As for multicolored eggs, Ameraucana chickens are able to lay blue and green eggs. Genetics ultimately determine what color the egg will be, and chickens are often selectively bred to produce a certain desired egg color. Generally, chickens with white earlobes will produce white eggs, while a chicken with red earlobes will produce brown ones. However, this is not always the case; the genetic make-up of the chicken ultimately determines the outcome.
