Chemical weathering is a process in which the Earth’s surface is shaped and molded by the different chemicals and biological processes that take place on the Earth’s surface. This complements physical weathering which accounts for the direct physical changes from the atmosphere such as rain and winds. Chemical or Biological Weathering covers a number of different actions including decompression of organic material or any environmental changes made by humans.
Activities by humans to break up materials such as rocks and soil are physical weathering processes rather than chemical. Like natural physical weathering, it may expedite chemical weathering.
