    Their conservation status is listed as a vulnerable species by the IUCN so their population has been in a decline. Approximately 12,400 cheetahs remain in the wild in 25 African countries with Namibia containing the most with 2,500. Another 50-60 critically endangered Asiatic Cheetah are thought to remain in Iran.
