Cheddar cheese is the most widely produced and consumed cheese in the world. Over 250 varieties exist and over 3 billion pounds of cheddar are produced annually.
As of 2003, the most popular cheese was mozzarella. Since then, popular tastes might have changed, but one thing remains the same: most cheeses are factory-made. As Americans, we eat a lot of processed food and cheese also falls in that category. Whatever flavor of cheese we may like the most, it is pretty likely it will be the product of a factory.
