The cheapest way to use the sun’s energy is to just access it directly, like open your curtains and let the radiant energy warm your home. Instead of using your microwave to thaw something, put it in the sun in a metal pan. Dry your clothes for free outside on a line in the sun. This is called passive solarcollection. A greenhouse is heated essentially for free, by allowing the sunlight to come through, heat the inside, then keeps the heat from escaping (the greenhouse effect).
You can increase the amount of heat captured by using dark material to absorb more heat or use fans to distribute the heat throughout a building.
