What is the cheapest fuel per kW?

In most places, coal is the cheapest. It’s abundant and we have many, many plants to process it in. If you consider energy efficiency a fuel, some argue that it is the cheapest: http://solveclimate.com/blog/20090930/2-5-cents-kilowatt-hour-americas-cheapest-cleanest-fuel-holds-steady. There is hope that in the future, renewable sources like wind and solar will become cheaper than coal, as the technology and transmission for these energy sources gets better.
