The RTSPO is a body that will compose and oversee the implementation of certain criteria, to ensure eco-friendly palm oil is produced and available to consumers. This includes tightening restrictions for financial qualification by the World Bank for palm oil producers, monitoring/controlling greenhouse gases emitted during the palm oil production process and maintaining vigilance in protecting endangered plant and animal species that are indigenous to palm oil producing nations. Two prominent members of the RTSPO are Unilever and Nestle, having met the criteria imposed by the organization, so either would be a viable source of sustainable palm oil.
