The main reason for forest loss in Indonesia is humans clearing the forests. Between 1950 and 2000, 40% of the forest were cleared. This was mostly due to a political system that viewed the forests as being a good source of revenue and viewed the environment as an unimportant thing to maintain. The deforestation is continuing today, and Indonesia is losing its forest faster than any other area in the world.
