What causes someone to be an albino?

Albinism is a complete lack of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes. It is caused by a genetic mutation and is a recessive allele meaning that a person must get two copies of the gene (one from each parent) in order to have the disorder. If the individual has only one copy they will look normal but are capable of passing the gene down to their children.
