“Cash for Clunkers” also called the Consumer Assistance Recycle and Save Act of 2009 is a government funded program. The purpose of the program is to get older less fuel efficient cars off the road by replacing them with new more fuel efficient vehicles. Depending on the vehicle, a person could receive up to a $4,500 voucher to use towards the purchase of a new vehicle. To get the full $4,500 voucher there needs to be a 10 or more miles per gallon improvement for passenger vehicles and 5 or more mile per gallon improvement for light trucks, SUVs, and minivans. One qualification is that the newer vehicle must get 4 more mpg than the previous vehicle if it is a passenger car and 2 or more mpg if it is a light truck, SUV, or minivan. A new passenger car must get at least 22 mpg, and the light trucks, SUVs, and minivans must get at least 18 mpg.
