According to Trees for Tibet, 100 pongamia trees have the potential to absorb six tons of carbon dioxide a year. This essentially offsets the yearly CO2 emissions of one car. A carbon sink any area that absorbs more carbon than it emits, which makes an area populated by pongamia a good source.
