What is the capacity of our lungs?

Human lungs have an average capacity of about four to six liters of air (4-6000 cubic centimeters), though we only use about a third of total capacity to breathe normally (though the fraction does increase in proportion to physical exertion).

Additionally, males on average have 20-25% greater lung capacity than females, and taller people predictably have greater capacity than short people.
