One company is collecting used wine corks to recycle into tiles for flooring. Another uses them to make footwear. You can send them directly to companies like this, or find a local collection site. Whole Foods now collects corks to redistribute to recyclers.
I had a friend who took old wine corks and used a twisty tie to wrap them around a string of Christmas lights. Sounds kind of cheesy, but she had them all around her lanai and I thought it was so pretty.
