Things like checking your local Air Quality Index should help you decide what kind of activities you may or may not want to do that day. Avoiding or reducing strenuous outdoor activities like running when smog levels are high, especially in high traffic areas and during afternoon hours.
You can try to avoid or limit your exposure to smog as much as possible. People that live close to busy freeways or highway are constantly being exposed to smog. Smog around a freeway is more concentrated the closer you get, the greatest amount of exposure starts within a mile and a half and increases as you get closer. You should see where you are located, in terms of proximately to freeways, to make sure your residence is not within a mile and a half of a major freeway or highway.
