You can follow the 250 rule-only buy produce grown within 250 miles from your house. Switch to CFL or LED lightbulbs in your home or get timers for your lights. Turn down the heat in the winter and throw on a sweater. Unplug everything after you are done using it, and unplug wasteful things. Ditch the car as often as possible and walk or bike instead.
Taking part in volunteer events would be a very good way. In general, spreading knowledge through community outreach and environmental education is one of the most valuable ways you can get involved outside of your own lifestyle choices.
