What can I burn in my fireplace that won’t release toxins or huge quantities of CO2 into the atmosphere? Anything?

Wood, plain paper, and cardboard (w/o any colored laminate) are all much cleaner burning than other things that can burn, such as magazines, cardboard with glossy advertising on it, anything containing plastics or paints with any traces of metal in them. If it is organic it burns relatively cleanly, but it does release CO2 into the environment, you can’t get around that when it comes to burning things!
