We can try to find alternatives to cutting down forests. One alternative that I’m fighting for is the legalization of industrial hemp. It is a cousin of the marijuana plant but it does not have psycho-active THC (it won’t get you high). It’s able to be imported and sold in the US but for most states in the union, it’s illegal to grow it. It can be used to produce a higher quality of paper than trees (the first draft of the Declaration of Independence was written on hemp paper) and its fibers creates an extremely durable rope, as well as being a very nutritious plant. It also can be used as a renewable bio fuel. It can grow almost anywhere and is extremely durable and would take some of the pressure off of deforestation.
