One ocean liner that attempted to become more green was the STX Finland, it dumps no sewage into the sea, reuses its waster water, and consumes 25% less power than similar cruise lines. Trying to reduce operation costs on board such as installing energy saving lighting, cooking food to order and installing solar panels are other steps to take, like the Royal Caribbean has. Yet as ocean liners are becoming more scrutinized for their polluting effects, many reveal much more must be done.
Ocean liners can use a newly introduced kite system to help pull the ship along. This reduces fuel consumption of the ship. Another way these ocean liners can go green is by switching to algae biofuel and using recycled materials in the construction of the ship.
