Avoid grazing in riparian zones. Riparian zones are the terrestrial areas immediately adjacent to streambeds. These areas often hold high levels of biodiversity. Ranchers often let cattle graze right up the the stream bank. This often destroys native vegetation while leaving invasive plants like tamrisk untouched. The best way to avoid this damage is to follow the best management practices established by your local extension service. Generally, conservation easments also prevent this overgrazing.
