What can be used to guard against skunks nesting in my yard?

There are a few different things you can do to help get rid of them. If they’re eating your trash, or scraps of food laying around there, make sure you trash is in a metal can that can’t be opened. Make sure that there’s no pet food or anything else that’s appealing. The link provided also shows a few ways to encourage them to leave and to barricade your property once they’re off.

If all else fails, you can call your local animal control center, and ask them to remove the skunks.

Moth balls are known to bother skunks, specifically, paradichlorbenzene mothballs (not napthaline mothballs). They should put placed into the nesting area, i.e. their holes. Unfortunately, this repellent only lasts a few days, so it requires vigilance! There are also the options of smoke cartidges and sanitary napkins soaked in ammonia (both should be pushed as far into their nesting holes as possible).
