What can be done to help the Haitian earthquake victims?

I found a list of ways to help put together by NPR.

    1) Text “HAITI” to 90999 and a $10 donation will be made to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts, charged to your cell phone bill – or go online to the Red Cross or Mercy Corps websites to donate.

    2) Text “Yele” to 501501, you’ll automatically be donating $5 to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund. The charge will show up on your phone bill.

    3) Visit this list of organizations that are providing help made by CBS.

The best way is to send money to help those trained in search and rescue and emergency aid.  The White House’s website has a way to donate to the Red Cross, which is probably a good, quick and effective way to get money into the aid effort.  Doctors Without Borders is also an amazing organization that sends doctors to developing countries, often during natural disasters or epidemics, to give medical help pro bono.

For the Red Cross, donate here: https://american.redcross.org/site/Donation2?4306.donation=form1&idb=868977999&df_id=4306&JServSessionIdr004=1wrdxgokm4.app197a

For Doctors Without Borders, here: https://donate.doctorswithoutborders.org/SSLPage.aspx?pid=197&hbc=1&source=ADR1001E1D01

Most simply, you can donate $10 by texting HAITI to 90999.  The donation will be reflected in your cell phone bill.

The Obama administration has linked places to donate, and how to contact any family that may be living in Haiti.
