What is California’s Water Efficient Landscape Act?

The Act is actually the Water Conservation in Landscaping Act of 2006 which required that all cities and counties implement water efficient landscape ordinances by January 1 of this year.  This is to reduce irrigation runoff, decrease pollution in water, improve resistance to droughts, reduce green waste and property damage and overall have a smaller carbon footprint.

A model of a draft ordinance can be found here: http://www.owue.water.ca.gov/docs/final_reg_text.pdf

The requirements are complex but the ultimate goal is in the name: to improve efficiency in water use during landscaping.
