The California Renewable Auction Mechanism (RAM) is an auction in which developers bid on the lowest levelized cost of energy price that they can afford. This program was created in an effort to support renewable energy development for small to mid-size businesses. RAM requires investor-owned utilities in California to purchase electricity from solar and other renewable sources (Greentech Media, 2011).
