The Built Environment Coalition was created to address the widening gap between the needs of communities to improve sustainability and disaster resiliency as well as helping to provide the means to do so.

Communities are not always aware of the potential solutions they have to improve their current built systems that are often dated and in need of repair. The BEC helps communities to find solutions that are cost-effective, environmentally friendly, but often not viable market options commercially.

They work with governments, companies and non-profits to evaluate the community and find the best solutions for that community.

The benefits to the environment depend on the solutions chosen to resolve the problems, but the environment is always taken into consideration when choosing the best solution for the community.
