What is bromine used for?

    Bromine is used for a number of different products.  It is primarily used as flame retardant.  It is commonly found in pool water purification products.  It is also used as an anti-knocking agent in gasoline and a fumigation pesticide.

    Bromine is used as a flame retardant by starving the fire of oxygen.  It is also used in the upkeep of pools and hot tubs, water purification, for reducing mercury from coal plants, and many more things.

    Bromine is also widely used in agriculture as a soil fumigant and as a pesticide in stored grain. It is also used in photography both in making the film as a component that helps catch light and in development of the film.
