Bottom trawling is a fishing technique that trawls the ocean floor.  The scientific community has actually subdivided bottom trawling in to two distinct categories, benthic trawling and demersal trawling.  Benthic trawling is what most people think of as bottom trawling, as this technique drags a fishing net along the ocean floor.  Demersal trawling is similar, in that it uses a net, but the net is dragged just above the benthic zone.
