Some bison in Yellowstone are periodically slaughtered as part of an effort to keep a disease of the bison called brucellosis to cattle. To keep this from happening, the Bison Relocation Program quarantines and moves these bison instead. The controversy about the relocation this year is that a lot of the bison ended up on Ted Turner’s private ranch. He proposes that he would keep them for five years, then return them to the park in Montana. But it is worrisome both because the program was supposed to keep the bison from being “commercialized,” and because Turner’s restaurant serves buffalo steaks…
