The term “biome” refers to the different types of environments around the world. These environments are based on vegetation and the organisms living in that environment. There are five major types of biome: aquatic, desert, forest, grassland, and tundra.
Scientists have determined some subdivisions of the biomes listed by haydenseder. These include the arctic tundra, alpine tundra taiga, tropical savanna, tropical rainforest, temperature rainforest, temperate broadleaf deciduous forest, chaparral woodland, mediterranean scrub and desert scrub biomes.
Additionally, a particular biome may be referred to with numerous names, often due to different areas of the world characterized by the same biome. For example, the temperature grassland biome may also be known as the pampa, steppe, prairie or veld.
