Biomass is organic materials made from plants and animals; the biomass contains stored energy from the sun which is then passed along to the animals that eat them and then the humans who eat those animals. Biomass is a renewable energy source because there is always the capability to grow more trees and crops. If burned, the chemical energy from biomass releases heat, biomass also releases methane gas and can be fermented to produce ethanol.
