Bioenthanol (or often marked simply as ethanol at the gas pump in the US) is a fuel alternative or additive made from plant sugars. Common crops used for this include corn and sugar cane. There has been much debate about this alternative since it has diverted tons of crops and croplands from the production of food to the production of fuel thus raising the price of basic stable foods, for example corn, on which many poor people in the world depend on.
