Biodiversity loss is the loss of biomass and biological diversity in the environment. A decrease in biodiversity can result in desertification.
The term biodiversity means the degree of variation of life forms within a given ecosystem, region, biome, planet, etc. Basically it describes the number of species present in a given area. So when an ecosystem experiences a “biodiversity loss”, it is lowering the number of species of plants/animals/etc. that call it home. Biodiversity tends to be lower in polar regions where harsh habitats only allow certain plants and animals to survive.
