The Kyoto Protocol is set to expire in the next few years. The next climate talks will be held in Copenhagen in December of this year. Any agreements made there will likely replace the Kyoto Protocol in the future.
To be a little more specific, the next bill will likely include provisions to provide aid for developing countries to cut emissions, something to the tune of about 15-30 billion a year from the EU, and a rather large amount from the US as well.
