What is the biggest type of owl?

It comes down to a neck-and-neck race between the Eurasian Eagle Owl and Blakiston’s Fish-owl, in terms of overall weight and length. It seems the Blakiston’s might have a slight edge in terms of weight, but the two are very similar in size. Indeed, the Great Grey Owl is very large in terms of height and length, but the vast majority of its size is due to huge amounts of insulating plumage — it actually weighs about half as much as the other two, which can reach up to around 10 lbs in weight (females only — males are significantly smaller). For comparison, Golden Eagles can weigh up around 15 lbs.
