There are many. The 2 big ones are Outdated industry (the American factory system is very “dirty” compared to most other developed countries”, and our obsession with cars (Only a very small percentage of American cities have a mass transit system that people readily use)
Business practice. In the past, presidents refused to sign the Kyoto Protocol (which would restrict the amount of carbon emissions) because it would be too detrimental for American business…and our country has a foundation built upon consumerism. As things progressively change to encourage more sustainable business practices, the United States will likely decline their carbon output.
