I think the biggest problem would be political in that nuclear energy, although a zero emission energy process, would not be setting an example for the world in clean energy innovation.
Nuclear energy produces radioactive waste which would have to be stored underground. Even then there is a high possibility of leakage into ground water systems. That is one environmental concern. Another is that nuclear energy utilizes uranium, which is nonrenewable and increasingly scarce. That is another environmental concern. The safety and security of nuclear reactors are also a concern. Being that the United States has been targeted by terrorists, nuclear power plants would be a security threat. Nuclear meltdowns and accidents are also never out of the question.
