The South American Andes are the biggest chain of mountains above the sea in the world. They span over 5,000 miles through 7 South American countries. However the longest span of mountain in the world is the mid-ocean ridge, which spans 65,000 kilometers (40,389 miles) around the globe.
After the Andes (and the underwater ranges), the Rockies (6035 km) are the next longest followed by the Himalayas (3862 km). Check out this link for a neat visual.
