The 53-megawatt (MW) Lieberose solar farm in Brandenburg, Germany is now the world’s second largest solar power plant and Germany’s biggest. The Lieberose solar farm is being constructed in over 162 hectares of land, the equivalent of more than 210 football fields, and will utilize approximately 700,000 thin-film modules. Upon its completion by the end of the year, the plant will generate around 53 million kilowatt-hours of electricity which is enough to supply the electricity needs of approximately 15,000 average households, while avoiding approximately 35,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
