When Exxon and Mobil merged to form Exxon-Mobile, they became by far the largest oil company in the world. Alot of people think the deal should’ve been blocked because the two companies combine to make up a large % of the market, but the deal was allowed to go through anyways.
by the end of 2007, exxon mobile had equivilant of 72 billion barrels of oil.
The oil industry is basically an oligopoly right. Do you think it would function better if there were more companies that controlled smaller percentages?
ExxonMobil is not the largest company by production, reserves, or assets. They rank about #17 – The Saudi Aramco Oil Company and a long list of other national oil companies are far larger than ExxonMobil by those rankings. ExxonMobil is the largest oil company in the US, but definitely not in the world.
PetroStrategies Inc. Is a corperation that moniters the oil industry and tracks several catagories related to company size and asset holdings.
Saudi Arabian Oil Inc. is number one in the world closly followed by National Iranian Oil Inc.
Suprised? Didn’t think so, but the link will confirm.
