What is the biggest challenge renewable energy is going to have?

The entrenched fossil fuel industries. Even as renewables gain traction with the government and the public, coal and petroleum industries are lobbying furiously to make sure their extractive technologies still enjoy certain tax breaks that make their industry’s fuels less expensive ways to produce electricity. Since the majority of our energy also is produced using coal or natural gas, it will take some time to transition to renewable energies. And the best sites for many renewable energies are not near urban centers where we use the most electricity, rather they are in remote locations and need new transmission lines to bring their electricity to where its needed.
