What is the biggest cause for pollution in our rivers and streams?

Water pollution is largely caused by runoff from agriculture, oil, mining, sewage, and industrial processes. Fertilizer and pesticides applied to farms and roadsides are particularly hazardous to rivers/streams because they can result in eutrophication (blooms of growth that choke the water supply of oxygen). Also, these chemicals end up in the groundwater, polluting the water we drink.
