    The American bison is considered the largest animal in North America. Adult males weigh up to 2,000 pounds! Amazingly, such a massive animal can still move quickly – bison can reach a speed of 32 miles per hour. Kodiak bears are generally considered the second largest.

    The largest flying bird in North America is the California Condor. These gargantuan birds can be about 50 inches tall (4+ feet) and have a wingspan of about 9 feet long. They can weigh up to 25 lbs. These winged beasts nearly went extinct as their population shrank to only 22 in the world. After being taking into captivity and reintroduced, their population has reached about 280 as of 2007.
