The biggest advantage is that it takes up less space than conventional farming. This means that vertical farming can be a large factor in combating sprawl. If this strategy were to be implemented on a large scale, we could possibly support civilization without increasing pressure on the land.
There are a lot of “disadvantages,” such as loss in diversity or nutritional value.
They use less space and pack in more food per square foot, I’d imagine!
