If you can find it, fast-moving water like from a stream, would be ideal. A spring would also be ideal, because it should have the least amount of contaminants. Plants retain water too, so try looking for succulent leaves. With any water that you acquire, you are going to have to filter, boil, or treat it with something to kill the contaminants. One of the other things you can do is dig. The deeper you go, the better chance of finding ground water. Once you get a nice hole, you can put a bowl in it, cover it with clear plastic wrap, and letting the sun do the rest. The water in the ground will condense onto the plastic and then go to the lowest point and hopefully fall into the bowl.
