The rattle itself is made of a chittin like material, and should keep fairly well on it’s own. The trick is that there may be some flesh left in the very end. I researched various methods of preservation, but it seems the best way is to remove that flesh. And, it seems, the best way to do that is to find some local ants. They’ll do the job for you 🙂
